Assos

Cephalonia's most dramatically positioned village! A glorious harbour village with a more rustic and rural feel than Fiscardo. The charm of Assos lies very much in its simplicity and stunning setting. 

The tiny, secluded village of Assos is romantic setting and perhaps the most beautiful location on the island of Kefalonia. The Assos peninsula is on the west coast of the Cephalonia island with the village nestling in its horse-shoe shaped harbour. The whole area is surrounded by beautiful coastal scenery of dramatic white rocks and cobalt sea with hillsides covered in forests of cypress and pine.

The romantic, picturesque village of Assos appears as if it's been stuck in time. Certainly the place to while away the day and do nothing other than perhaps sample the local wine, taste the fresh fish caught that morning and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.Alongside these you will find an attractive collection of private houses, a small selection of villas and apartments, four or five tavernas and a mini-market.

As you enter the village there is a small, shady, pebble beach offering clear waters and views across the bay.The local marine life includes dolphins, which often actually come into the harbour, and monkseals, which hide in the sea caves and are rarely sighted.

BEACHES

The town beach is in the centre of Assos. Along the shoreline is a selection of cafes and tavernas.The clean waters of the harbour provide the closest beach, with another couple accessible only by boat, to be found around the headland. The most famous beach on Cephalonia – Myrtos – is a ten minute drive away, the picturesque pebble coves of the Erisso peninsula twenty minutes drive and many other fabulous beaches such as Petani and Trapezaki are to be found within an hours drive.

DINING

The sleepy waterside tavernas in Assos provide a magical and romantic setting. Should one wish to sample a more cosmopolitan atmosphere in the evening, Fiscardo is only twenty kilometres away either by hire car or taxi. Assos is well located to explore the island by day. That is always assuming you can drag yourself away from the hypnotic and sleepy charms of Cephalonia’s most dramatically positioned village!
